Watch for our new website!  New design, new information.  The site and the email may be down temporarily as we switch over to a new web hosting company so please check back again if the website is unavailable.  Please be patient as we make these new changes - it is taking longer than we expected!

Oasis Ranch Open House and Tack Swap April 10th 11:00 am to 4:00 pm
Everyone is invited to come take a look at the stallions, new foals, and see the tack at the Tack Swap.  There may even be a tack auction with some special tack.  There will be used tack and show clothes and brand new tack.  The new Oasis Ranch saddles will be available to see and maybe even try out.  Dave Hammond will be here to talk about custom options and take orders.  You won't believe the prices and the quality!

Last year there were a lot of sellers and a lot of tack changed hands with many happy buyers and sellers.  Sellers will be provided with tables and chairs (and heaters if needed).  We will set up in the indoor arena (or inside the breeding area if the weather forecast is wrong).  Good weather is predicted.  Sellers will be charged $10.00 to help pay for the food, tables and the bathrooms.  All sales are between the buyers and sellers - Oasis Ranch just provides the tables.

We will have a list of all the horses for sale for those interested.  Please do not enter the stalls or pastures without approval from Pete or Marilyn.  We will be happy to have someone go with you and tell you who is who.  We have a lot of nice horses for sale and a list of client horses for sale, too.

Corky Donnelly from Sheldon Feed will be here to talk about the new Purina Ultium feeds and give out samples.  If you get here early Marilyn and Jessica may still be doing the mare reproduction work and you are welcome to watch and ask questions.  There will be discounted breeding fees and horse prices for Open House day only.  Call the ranch for more information on selling, buying, breeding, or horses for sale.  Directions are available by clicking here.

Cisco Grove Returns To Oasis Ranch
Cisco Grove, a blue roan and gray son of Master Jay and Porcelain Lace by King Fritz Two, has been repurchased by Oasis Ranch. On our first trip together to the NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity, Pete saw the sign on Hwy 80 for Cisco Grove, a town just west of  Reno.  Pete said as soon as we had an exceptional colt that he wanted to name him after the town, and when Cisco Grove was born, that became his name.  Cisco Grove was one of the most popular foals we ever raised and people from all over the world still ask about him.  Cisco Grove, now a five year old, has been in training with Benny Guitron and was only shown once and picked up 2.5 reining points.  Benny thinks he is one of the best horses he has had in training in 20 years and says he will be a great fence horse. Cisco Grove has no Doc Bar and has a foundation pedigree.  He will be shown in reining, reined cow horse and cutting by Pete and Marilyn Bowling.  Click here for his new web page and new photos.  Book early and breed to him for $750.

New Foal Photos
We will not be having a Production Sale this year but will be selling horses privately.  The week after last year's sale we decided that we can do a better job of promoting and placing the offspring of our stallions by selling them as yearlings instead of weanlings.  We are going to skip a year so we will have enough yearlings to sell.  In the mean time, we have listed all of our foals and yearlings on our Horses For Sale page.   We do not have all the photos posted yet but will be adding more weekly.  Take a look - send us an email, give us a call or come by the ranch to take a look.  We have a great foal crop and think you will be impressed.

New Stud Fee Financing Options
We, as stallion owners and managers, have to make adjustments to make it easier for you to stay active in the horse business. If we do not make breeding your mare easier for you, it becomes virtually impossible for us to stay in business and deliver the kind of service you have come to expect from Oasis Ranch. We recognize that most of our clients are working class people - the middle class - and we have always been proud of that. And it is the middle class that has been hit hardest by these disastrous economic times.

With that in mind...

We have put together, without a doubt, one of the finest sets of young stallions available in the nation.

We have taken a pencil to breeding fees and cut them to the bone.

Plus, we are going one step further...

We are offering an innovative financing package to the mare owners who want or need to take advantage of it. The booking fee, mare, care and vet bill will be due and payable as usual: the booking fee payable at time of booking and the mare care and vet bill payable before the mare leaves the ranch. For shipped semen mares the booking fee and shipping fees will be payable prior to shipments. The balance of the breeding fee will be payable in monthly installments directly to the stallion owner. A reasonable current interest rate will be charged for this service. Another option will be a discount on stud fees paid in full at time of booking.

Years ago Oxbow Ranch ran an ad during the financial crisis of the 1980’s. They quoted noted financial advisor Bernard Baruch who stated, "Always buy your straw hats in the winter." That philosophy has always stuck with us. Those who weather the storm will emerge from the crisis stronger that ever.

Give us a call, go to the website, come to the Open House or come by the ranch anytime to discuss the options.

They Are Here!
Imacockadoodledude arrived at Oasis Ranch on December 17th.  He will be here about a week for semen testing and then will go back into training until February 1st.

ARC Matt Olena and Im Chairman arrived late December 17th and will be available to see beginning on December 18th.  Blessed Twice arrived December 19th.  Olena Oak will arrive after the NRCHA World Show.  The other stallions all live here and can be seen any time.

Visitors are welcome anytime except Christmas day!  Come take advantage of early booking discounts and breeding fee financing.

Jason Grimshaw and Ima Miss N Texas placed 12th in the AQHA Junior Working Cow Horse Go-Round and move to the finals.  This 4 year old daughter of Yellow Roan Of Texas already has her ROM in Working Cow Horse and is only a four year old.  Jason said she had a good chance to make the finals and we are happy to report that he was right.  She is owned by Larry and Debbie Roberts of Elm Grove, Louisiana.

Misters Brown Sugar, by Mister Dual Pep and out of Oasis Ranch broodmare, Plain Cute Sugar, was second in the go-round with a fence score of 220.  Mister Brown Sugar is a 5 year old mare owned by Douglas and Cynthia Granade of Shingle Springs, California, and shown by Ron Emmons of Ione, California.  Plain Cute Sugar has earned over $11,000, mostly in cutting, and has produced over $48,000.  She is bred to Yellow Roan Of Texas for an early 2009 foal.

Olena Oak, owned by Mel Smith and Nichole Scott, of Dunnigan, California, was last years AQHA Junior Working Cow Horse Champion.  This year he is looking for a repeat and has made the Senior Working Cow Horse Finals after finishing 5th in the go-round.  He is shown by Ron Emmons.  Olena Oak is also qualified in the reining.  Olena Oak will be standing at Oasis Ranch after the NRCHA World Show and will, for the first time, have fresh and chilled semen available as well as frozen semen.

Blessed Twice will stand at Oasis Ranch
We are adding another stallion out of another great mare to the Oasis Ranch stallion lineup.  Blessed Twice, owned by the Blessed Twice Partnership of Mike and Michelle Mowery and Carl & Laurel Shrontz, is by Peptoboonsmal and out of NCHA Futurity Champion, Some Kinda Memories.  He was injured at the NCHA Futurity in his only showing and was never shown again but has already sired earners of $90,000 including NCHA Futurity Finalists in the Amateur and Limited Non-Pro as well as money earners in the NCHA Non-Pro Futurity and Superstakes.  He will stand for $1750, with a breeding fee of $1500 for the first 20 outside mares.   Take a look at his web page www.blessedtwice.net until we get his new page posted.

Great Inspriration Heads To Nebraska
Great Inspiration will stand the 2009 breeding season at Eddie and Deb Domann's in Nebraska.  He is qualified for the 2008 AQHA World Show in Senior Cutting but will not be shown due to a temporary injury.  He is still owned by Great Inspiration LLC and will be moving to Nebraska in November.

Sale Results
Despite the stock market freefall the day before the sale (the biggest percentage drop since 1880) and the 40 mph winds the day of the sale, we averaged $3000 on 55 horses that were mainly weanlings.  High seller was the half brother to the 2008 NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity Champion, Black Pearl.  The fancy 2008 bay roan colt by Yellow Roan Of Texas out of Sugar Babe Taffy by Master Remedy was purchased by Rolando De La Rosa of Lincoln, California.  We had an international crowd again with the first filly, by Tulare out of Dear Tabby by King Fritz Two, selling to Mike and Valerie Adams of England.  Susan Marchant of Goondiwindi, Queensland, Australia bought Doug Chaikin's Dually Pep filly out of Smart Alice Boon.  The drastic drop in foreign currencies against the dollar also slowed down the international purchases.

We wish the prices had been higher, but when compared to other sales that sold broke show horses, started two year olds, and yearlings by the priciest stallions that averaged less than our weanlings did, we are grateful that we averaged $3000.  True to our word, we sold the Oasis Ranch horses without reserve despite the prices and there were some outstanding foals that we huge bargains.  We did pass out one old broodmare that did not get a decent bid and put her back out in the pasture with her best friend.  We held back some weanlings that were not in the sale  and may switch to a yearling sale format next year.  Take a look at the horses for sale page to see some of the client horses that did not sell and other horses for sale.

Joel Viloria to take UC Davis Job

Oasis Ranch Production Sale News
The entries are in for the production sale.  The web page will be posted this week with a list of horses.  Outside horses include Kristy Locatelli's mare Necana, who is bred to Yellow Roan Of Texas; Smart Like Freckle, a producing daughter of Smart Little Lena that is bred to Yellow Roan Of Texas; and two daughters of Millionaire Sire Somebody Smart - one is bred to Tulare and one is bred to Yellow Roan Of Texas.  There will be more outside broodmares, yearlings and two year olds than we have had in the past and the usual number of Oasis Ranch foals and yearlings.

Oasis Ranch Production Sale Will Be October 11th, 2008
Our Annual Production Sale will be held the first Saturday after the NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity.  Clients with mares bred to or foals by an Oasis Ranch Stallion will be able to sell those horses in the sale.  The deadline for entries is July 15th.  Call the office for more information.

Busy
Breeding season is winding down for us. How busy were we?  We inseminated mares over 400 times so far this year and collected stallions 220 times.  We shipped 54 shipments just in the month of May.  And we have foaled out 50 mares so far this year.  Our conception rates have remained really high and we have many of the 24 years and older mares  back in foal.  Maybe we will get to another horse show soon.

Updating The Website
We will be making changes to the website almost daily now so check back for new photos as we add new broodmares for sale, cattle photos of the two year olds, new foals, and, of course, the sale horses.

New Photos of the Two Year Olds
We have some really fancy two year olds.  Nicky Lena (Yellow Roan Of Texas x Quickinici Lena) is spectacular on cattle.  We cannot decide if she will be a snaffle bitter or a cutter.  Rey Posado Gold (Master Jay x Peppys Miss Priss) has no Doc Bar, is incredible on a cow, and has a really high price tag.  Tulare Rose (Tulare x Peppy Gold Doc) is one of our favorites - she is fancy on cattle and will be fancy in the reined work.  Ruby Goes Retro (Tulare x Hanky Panky Pinky) is going to be a reiner and already runs nice circles and is going to be a huge stopper.  Last Thing Smokin - named after a Tom Russell Song  - (Yellow Roan Of Texas x Masters Little Belle) is out of a Master Remedy mare and is a really good one.   Whoa Buck (Yellow Roan Of Texas x Simply Nic) had been sold to Dennis Barth of Las Vegas, NV.  Anuther Great One (Yellow Roan Of Texas x Anuther Great Lena) was started later than the others but already has a big stop and we think she will be spectacular on a cow.  Take a look a the Horses For Sale Page for photos, more information and more two year olds.

Tulare Wins Cow Palace Grand National Reining
We went to San Francisco to show at what was once the most prestigious show on the West Coast - The Cow Palace Grand National.  Tulare won the AQHA Reining under both judges after 4 years off from showing due partially to colic surgery for a stone and partially due to the large numbers of mares bred each year at Oasis Ranch that prevents much time for showing.  He ran last in the draw after an office mix up and was only allowed to warm up for 5 minutes in the show arena prior to the reining.  Both judges awarded him first place and many, many people approached us after the run to find out who he was and where he was standing at stud.  Tulare always seems to deliver when called upon and is a true show horse.

We started the day with the Junior Cutting where Pete placed second with Starlight Lite, a Royal Fletch daughter and earner of $10,000 NCHA that is being bred for embryos to Yellow Roan Of Texas.

RJJ Lenaspurplepepto (Jane) also showed in the Junior Cutting and had the toughest cow of the day and was marking a 74 or 75, or even higher, with the brahma cross heifer working inches away from the mare and even running into her at one point.  The cow would not turn away and after about 30 seconds of holding the cow, the cow ran past her.  But, we are extremely excited about this Yellow Roan Of Texas daughter and look forward to showing her.  We think you will agree she is special when you see her.

Next Pete showed Great Inspriration in the Senior cutting where he was late in the herd and still finished second.  This was the first time he has been shown since last summer and the first time we have shown him.  We had comments all day about how stylish he was in front of a cow.

Just for fun Marilyn showed Nuthin But Master, the 17 year old turn back horse/practice horse, in the Cow Palace Grand National NRCHA Non Pro Bridle Event and was Champion in that event.  Nuthin But Master is an offspring of Master Remedy, like Master Kaweah and so many of the Oasis Ranch mares.  He was originally trained by the late Pat Hubbert.

New Foals
We have a lot of new babies and hope to have the photos up this weekend.  Take a look at the Broodmare page for more information.  We have an exceptional foal crop with more fillies already than we had last year.  Marilyn is already trying to talk Pete into keeping more than she should.  We bred a few more mares to Tulare last year and the foals are very fancy.  Our first Master Kaweah babies will be arriving soon and we are anxiously awaiting them, also.  And, of course, we have some spectacular Yellow Roan foals.  Quickinici Lena has a Yellow Roan colt that is already trying to work the cattle and he is less than a month old!

New Mares
Rolando de la Rosa has purchased several new mares that will be be bred to Yellow Roan: Misters Bobbie, Misters Ripon Nic, Flo Cat Flo, and Bobbie Nic Babe, an NRCHA money earner.  These will join his other two mares, Smokin Mister and Not A Plain Chic., who both have red roan Yellow Roan of Texas colts.  Not A Plain Chic may have the fanciest foal on the ranch.  Rolando is a builder from Sacramento and purchased Benny Guitron's "mystery bag" at the Oasis Ranch Open House.

Texas Remedy Wins Reining at Fort Worth
Texas Remedy, by Yellow Roan Of Texas, and owned and shown by Jeff Buckley, the Fort Worth Intermediate Open Reining at Fort Worth.  Texas Remedy was bred by Oasis Ranch and is out of a daughter of Mater Remedy.

Shipped Semen Days
Shipping days will be Monday, Wednesday and Friday.  Due to multiple problems with UPS losing shipments and not having any guarantees, we will not be using them at all this year.  We did have shipments lost with both the airlines and Fed Ex, but they are much better at following through on their guarantees.  We insure all shipments for $1000 to cover our expenses and the cost of the shipment.  Please let us know if you would like additional insurance to cover any mare care and vet bills that might be wasted by a lost shipment.  Just a reminder - all stud fees and shipping payments must be made prior to shipment and credit cards will incur a 5% convenience fee.

Open House and Tack Swap a Big Success
We had between 200 and 300 people here for the Open House and they started arriving even before the 2:00 pm start time.  We went to the Golden State Shows AQHA Cutting and Cow Horse Special Event in Lodi where Pete marked a 74 and won the cutting on RJJ Lenaspurplepepto, a daughter of Yellow Roan Of Texas.  We skipped the Cow Horse classes and returned to the ranch about 1:00 pm and there were people already here.  Our staff had everything ready and we had about 15 tables of tack ranging from high end collectible silver bits and trophy saddles to $3 smooth snaffles.  Dave Hammond auctioned off a saddle and a "mystery bag" from Benny Guitron.  The "mystery bag" sold to Rolando de la Rosa for $450 and he will hang most of the contents on his office wall.  John Ward's tack arrived on Monday and missed the Tack Swap but sold the same day that it arrived.

Breeding manager Joel Viloria, colt rider Scott Mahon, and intern Kyle Baade, all showed stallions and they said they never stopped from about 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm.  With the 70 degree weather, we were able to preview the stallions outside and we booked a lot of mares.  Employee Bryna Hull and intern Jessica Sherry managed the Oasis Ranch tables along with our friend, Susan Hull.  Pete and Marilyn spent most of the afternoon talking to everyone from old friends to new clients.  We had a great time and everyone we talked to said they had a great time.  Next year the Open House and Tack Swap will be on the same weekend, but will be on Sunday so there is no conflict with the horse show.  Many people missed out because the horse show did not get over until 8:30 pm.   Next year we hope everyone can be there.

We had one new foal for the Open House.  A Tulare filly arrived at 1:00 pm on the day before.  (Thank you very much mare, for not delivering at 2:00 am!)  Her dam is Bright Candles, a daughter of King Fritz Two, and a full sister to Pinkaboo.  We have other mares in the foaling stalls but they are taking their time.

Olena Oak Wins Arizona Sun Circuit Senior Working Cow Cow Horse Championship
Mel Smith, owner of Olena Oak with his daughter Nichole Scott, stopped by the ranch today and showed us the Championship Saddle won by Olena Oak at the Sun Circuit.  Olena Oak will be at Oasis Ranch during the Open House along with his AQHA World Champion Trophy and the trophy saddle.  Olena Oak is by Smart Chic Olena and out of a daughter of Doc's Oak and will stand for $1500.

Bits Arrive For Open House and Tack Swap
Barbara Rhodes sent up some really nice bits for the Oasis Ranch Open House and Tack Swap on February 9th.  Some were used on horses in the 1960's.  Click on each bit to see a larger photo.  Ron Bowers, who has one of the biggest bit collections anywhere and has everything from Ortega to Grijalva to working tack, is going to bring his collection to the Tack Swap, too.

We will also have Cindy Robert's 1999 NRCHA World Champion Open Bridle Saddle. made by Bob's Saddlery.  Click on the photo to enlarge.

Great Inspiration Arrives At Oasis Ranch
Great Inspiration arrived at Oasis Ranch on January 24th along with four two year old colts by him.  They came from Idaho where it was 24 below in the week before they left so they are fuzzy, but we think you will be impressed.  All four colts are quality colts and will be started under saddle next week.

Two Year Olds
Natal Melo called and said his Yellow Roan Of Texas two year old out of the King Fritz Two mare, Seems Like Old Times, is the best colt he has started.  He purchased him at the Oasis Ranch Traditions Production Sale.

All but the two youngest two year old fillies at Oasis Ranch have been started and are really fancy.  Some have just had a few rides but we are really happy with all of them.  They include Texas Time Out by Yellow Roan, Nicky Lena by Yellow Roan, Whoa Buck by Yellow Roan, Tulare Rose by Tulare, Ruby Goes Retro by Tulare, Last Thing Smokin by Yellow Roan, and Telaboonsmal by Yellow Roan, and Rey Posado Gold by Master Jay.  Take a look at the Horses For Sale web page for more information on them.

King Fritz Two Granddaughter Produces AQHA Junior Reining World Champion
Cheryl Chex, by King Fritz Two, won the Del Mar Stock Horse Stake as a four year old and placed in the top ten in the Junior Reining at the AQHA World Show.  She produced an AQHA High Point Reining Horse, CC Whoa Is Me, and also produced Boomer Nicolette.

Sandy Collier Clinic
Marilyn participated in the Sandy Collier Clinic on January 12th & 13th and had a great time working with Sandy and meeting new people.  She took her practice horse, an 18 year old gelding, and also worked Master Kaweah in the herd practice where he was spectacular.  Pete has been working Master Kaweah in cutting and plans to show him soon.  He is quickly becoming one of our favorite horses.

Pete and Sandy have been friends for a long time but this is the first time Marilyn has attended a clinic with her.  Besides being an excellent trainer and horseman, she is an excellent teacher than can communicate techniques with clarity and patience.  Sandy has more clinics scheduled and also has some excellent training videos - you can find them at her website at www.sandycollier.com

An Exciting New Stallion, Definitely
January 10, 2008
Great Inspiration, earner of over $33,000 with limited showing and a full brother to Smart Little Ricochet and Smart Equalizer, will be arriving at Oasis Ranch, Inc. as soon as we can get him here.  We just received his HERDA results and he is negative (N/N).  He is by Smart Little Lena and out of the great mare Moria Sugar, earner of $112,893 and producer of foals earning over $897,678.  He is owned by Great Inspiration LLC of Idaho and was shown by Dave Glaser and Mike Giannini.  Oasis Ranch, Inc will be the managing partner.  We will have DVD's arriving soon of one of his 76 runs.  His stud fee will be $1500 and he will be subscribed to the stallion incentives as his foals become eligible.

An Exciting New Stallion, Maybe
We may have a very exciting new cutting stallion coming soon.  He has earned over $30,000.  He is by a very famous stallion and out of a very famous mare that has earned over $100,000 and produced almost $900,000.  We are working out the details.  Watch the website for more information.

New Ultrasound Image DVD
Have trouble looking at the ultrasound while your mare is being scanned?  Want to know mare about what you are looking at?  We have a new ultrasound reproduction image dvd that will be available in late February.  We will have images of follicles, embryos, cysts, uterine fluid and pregnancies; everything we see on reproduction ultrasound will be on this dvd.  We will follow several mares as they progress through their heat cycles.  You will be able to pop it into your computer and view images at your own pace.  Be ready the next time your veterinarian comes out to check your mare.  The cost will be $50.00.

Get Ready For Breeding Season
If you have not already pregnancy checked your mare, you need to do so to make sure she is still in foal and not just fat.  Too many mare owners skip this step every year and wait until long after their mare is due to find out she is not in foal.  This happens to about 10% of the mares every year and just because you never saw an aborted fetus, it does not mean she is still pregnant.  The sooner you know her status, the sooner you can take the necessary steps for the next event.  If she is not pregnant, you need to immediately contact the breed farm and get a contract for a rebreed.  You will probably have to send them a veterinary certificate stating your mare is not pregnant.  Most farms require that you rebreed the following year or you lose your rebreed.  You may have also booked your mare to a different stallion.  You will also have to contact that breed farm and explain that your mare is being rebred.  And you should have a plan for your open mare.  Both the breeding farm and your regular veterinarian should have recommendations on what to do, which may include a culture and biopsy.

If you mare is still pregnant, like most mares will be, make sure you know her breed date and due date.  Not all mares will go the average 343 days.  Some mares will carry their foal for only 10 1/2 months.  You need to check your mare's udder at least daily once she gets to about 10 months gestation.  She will also need to be dewormed and vaccinated at about 10 months gestation so the foal will have all the advantages of maternal antibodies.  You should also have her feet done so you will not have to bother her as she gets heavier in foal or right after foaling.  You should have your foaling area prepared and move your mare into that area two to four weeks before foaling.  We prefer a 12' x 24' or 24' x 24' stall with deep straw bedded over shavings.  You should also have your foaling kit ready.  Check with your regular veterinarian for what you will need.  Our foaling kit includes paper towels, tail wrap, ob sleeves, lubricant, nolvasan or betadine for the foal's umbilical, scissors, alcohol to disinfect the scissors, and an enema for the foal.  You should also have a watch or clock so you know what time things happen.  We record the start of foaling, actual foaling, foal standing, foal nursing, and the mare's passing of the placenta.  While not absolute, a good rule of thumb is that the foal should stand within one hour, nurse within two hours, and the mare should pass the placenta within three hours.  Most mares foal with no problems.  Where many people get into trouble is the after care of both the mare and the foal.  Find out from your veterinarian in advance about what to do if your mare and foal do not meet the 1-2-3 guidelines.  It can turn into a serious emergency situation if any of these things are delayed.  Mares and foals can die if they require immediate medical attention and do not get it.  Take a look at our FAQ page for answers to more questions.

American Quarter Horse Foundation
When we went back to Maryland and Virginia over the holidays to visit Pete's family, we took time to visit Walter and Nancy Hughes.  Walter is a former AQHA judge, former head of the AQHA Judge's Committee, and a mentor of Pete's.  Nancy is on the AQHA Foundation committee and a big proponent of therapeutic riding.  Take a look at the AQHA Foundation web page.  Make sure you go to the tabs at the top of the page and take a look at all the things the foundation does: Scholarships, Research, Hall Of Fame, Education and Therapeutic Riding.  It really is an amazing program and Nancy Hughes has played a major part in it.

Ricotti's
If you have never been to Ricotti Saddle Company, you are missing one of the best tack stores anywhere.  It is not a huge store, like some of the big Texas stores that sell everything from pink halters to saddles with neon green ostrich seats.  Ricotti's offers high quality tack that professionals or serious non-pros will use.  They offer flawless custom made saddles and headstalls along with high quality equipment made by outside sources, such as their braided romal reins.  They are about 20 minutes away from us and we take everyone there who is visiting from out of town.  They also have a fantastic gift department that we check out every time we are there.  If you stop by, make sure you take a look at the photo album of their finished custom made projects - it will make you add things to your wish list!  And make sure to peak into the workroom.  There is usually at least one really cool (and really valuable) old saddle in there for repair.  Their web site does not begin to show everything they offer but take a look at RicottiSaddle.com for information, directions and the phone numbers.

Somebody Smart Moves to Brazil
Somebody Smart will be leaving any minute and will be on his way to Brazil.

New Horses For Sale
Take a look at the updated Horses For Sale page.  We have added some new coming two year olds and have a few more horses to add as we get more information from their owners.

Breeding Manager
Breeding manager Joel Vilora has done an outstanding job for us since arriving in February 2007.  While Marilyn will still make the major decisions, do embryo transfers, manage the problem mares, and do the teasing, and Pete will still make the breeding decisions, Joel will do most of the actual hands on everyday work.  Joel, a graduate of UC Davis in Equine Science, also was in charge of halter breaking and fitting the weanlings for the sale and he did an outstanding job.  He is assisted by Jessica Sherry, who is going to college at Consumnes River College and working part time.  We will also have several interns during breeding season to learn about the breeding business hands on.  Contact Joel at joelviloria@oasisranchinc.com for more information.

Because of our confidence in Joel, we hope to show more in the reining, cutting, and the working cow horse.  We have a great group of horses and look forward to riding and showing them.

Saddles
We are putting the refining touches on the Oasis Ranch, Inc. saddles and should have the actual saddles soon.  We will have a link where you can see different options available such as tooling patterns and silver details.  We are very particular about the design and quality of these saddles, designed for the reining, working cow horse, and cutting events, and we think you will be happy with the results.  For those of you who know us and want to try the saddles on a horse, watch the website for when the saddles arrive.

Border Collies
Rocky (by Ren out of Samantha) has gone to Pennsylvania to Kim Gailey, daughter of Herm and Jane Gailey.  Callie (by Ren out of Samantha) has gone to Grady Duncan of Virginia.  Clara (by Ren out of Tess) has gone to Jardi Clark of Alberta, Canada.  Patch (by Ren out of Samantha from an older litter) has gone to Greg Coffin of Alberta, Canada.  Laurie (by Ren out of Tess) has gone to Natall and Jody Melo of Turlock, California.  Gus (by Ren out of Tess) has gone to Wyatt Bourdet of Hollister, California.  Jake (by Ren out of Tess) is going to Smoky Pritchett of Red Bluff, California.  Dot (by Ren out of Samantha) has gone to Dick and Carole Guertin of Lincoln, California.  Cleo (By Ren and out of Tess) has gone to Gil Ledesma of California.  Stripe (by Ren out of Samantha) has gone to Jorge Salazar of California.  Tess' puppies were born August 20th and Samantha's puppies were born August 29th.

We have one puppy left.  Freckles (by Ren out of Samantha) born August 29th.  She is a tri female who is already trying to work and is a really fancy puppy.  We will keep her and train her until sold.  We will not have any more puppies until next summer unless our older female, Abby, comes into heat.  Abby is the mother of Cady Shaw's dog, Bobby Sue, and we already have requests for Abby puppies by Ren.  The vet says she is young enough and healthy enough to breed but she has not been in heat for 18 months.  Abby is a curly haired black and white bred by Tony Diaz from imported parents.  Samantha is a tri colored full sister to Marilyn's great dog Ben, who was hit by car two years ago.  Samantha also comes from dogs bred by Tony Diaz.  Tess is a short haired black and white by Bill Renihan's Cattle Trial Champion C-Zar and out of Bruce Siegalkoff's Nursery Trial Champion, Delta.

Ren (tri colored) was imported as a puppy from Aled Owen of Wales and is by an International Supreme Champion and out of a female by an International Supreme Champion.  Ren's father, Bob, is featured on Aled Owen's new training DVD, Time Well Spent.  Ren's full brother from an prior litter, Spot, is also featured on the DVD as he progresses from a puppy chasing sheep to a trained working dog.  Aled Owen just won another International Supreme Championship on a dog closely related to Ren.

We will have the border collie web page up soon.

Website Updates
Keep checking back as we update the website with new pages and add information to both the stallions and the broodmares.

Lil Miss N Texas Finalist at Suncoast Futurity
October 14, 2007
Lil Miss N Texas, ridden by Cameron Verstegen and owned by Green Gables Ranch, was a finalist in both divisions of the Three Year Old Open Suncoast Futurity at Las Vegas today.  She increased her earnings to $27,900.

Production Sale A Success
Even though the weather was cold and rainy on Friday night, the Wine and Cheese tasting was a success with people here from the United Kingdom, Pennsylvania, Utah, and Nevada as well as people here from California.  The next morning we previewed the riding horses in the sale as well as showed off some two year olds from the 2005 and 2006 sales.  Billy Phariss worked four two year old fillies on cattle, and two sale horses, Pep In His Step and Lilly The Filly, showed off what they could do.  As soon as the last horse was worked the sun broke out and the rest of the day was beautiful.  Lunch was served and there were over 225 people here for lunch.  The sale started late, about 1:00 pm, because of the number of people still eating.  About 400 people attended the sale.  The first horse, a Yellow Roan Of Texas sorrel colt out of a Smart Little Lena mare, sold to Blain Vernon of North Carolina for $12,500.  His bid was over the phone.  We also sold a colt to a different buyer in North Carolina, and sold horses to buyers in Utah, Nevada, Oregon, Colorado, California, Pennsylvania, Canada and the United Kingdom. We added online bidding this year and we had numerous bids both online and via the telephone.  Unfortunately, the video feed for the online bidding did not work.  Even so, we had online bids from all over the country and even had someone bidding online from Sweden.  We were told by our Internet Provider that the video feed would not be a problem and then at the last minute they said they could not do it.  We hope to have that fixed in time for next year's sale.

The Oasis Ranch horses averaged just over $5,000.  With the economy off and many of the sale horse prices around the country getting lower and lower, and since we were selling mainly weanling stud colts, we were very happy to only be slightly off last year's average.

The prices will be posted later today.

Lil Miss N Texas Wins El Rancho Futurity with a 224
Cameron Verstegen showed Lil Miss N Texas to an outstanding score of 224 and won the Finals at the El Rancho Futurity, earning $17,500.  The daughter of Yellow Roan Of Texas had the crowd whistling and cheering with her performance.  She was the last horse in the last set in the finals that began with 103 entries.  The event was held at the brand new cutting facility built by Carol Ward at the Murieta Equine Complex in Murieta, California.  We have been hearing about Lil Miss N Texas since the Klamath Falls Northwest Ranch Festival and it was exciting to see her and really exciting to see her win.  This was Cameron's first three year old to train and show.  She is owned by Green Gables Ranch and is out of a Miss N Cash mare.

More HERDA Results
Ray Gay Quixote is negative for HERDA.  We have negative HERDA results for the following following mares: Hollylena Telesis, Cmon Tell Us, Lil Promises To Keep, Jeanita Chexx, Everyday Elegance, Ivy Lena, Masters Response, Chantilly Sis, Babes Blue Ribbon, and SR Lena San.  So far, no Oasis Ranch mares or Stallions have tested positive for HERDA.  We tested all our mares that have offspring in the Production Sale and will eventually be testing all of the broodmares and will have their HERDA status listed on our broodmare page.

Sale Catalog Complete and Online
The sale catalog pedigree pages are online and ready for your viewing.  To see the all the pedigree pages you can click hereTo view the pages one horse at a time at www.horseauctions.com click here.  (may not be posted for a few days)  The photos on the Production Sale page will be rearranged to match the pedigree pages.  Please give us a call with any questions about the horses, purchasing, or absentee bidding.

All the Oasis Ranch, Inc. owned horses will be weaned, halter broken, dewormed, trimmed and vaccinated.  All that are eligible for the AQHA Incentive Fund will be enrolled.  Depending on the sire, the foals may also be eligible for the NRCHA Stakes, the NRBC, the Breeder's Invitational, PCCHA and the Super Stakes.  Different stallions have different subscriptions so check with us about each individual stallion.

Production Sale Catalog Nearing Completion
The sale catalog will be out soon for the October 13th Oasis Ranch Traditions Production Sale.  The pedigree pages are being done by Sara Vaessen Pedigrees and the printing will be done by Digital Graphics.  Once the pedigree pages are completed, they will be available online at www.horseauctions.com.  We will be mailing out another mailer mid September if we have you on the list.  If you are on the list, you should have already received one mailer.  We did have several come back with incorrect addresses.  Give us a call if you want a mailer and did not get one.  They will have photos of almost all of the sale horses. We will also have sale catalogs at our booth at the NRCHA World Championship Snaffle Bit Futurity in Reno and will have plenty here at the ranch and on sale day.  We will also be sending out catalogs by request.  We are still waiting for photos on some of the horses on the Production Sale page so keep checking back as we add more information and more photos.

We have people coming in from all over the county so if you are staying overnight, please make your reservations soon.  We will also have absentee bidding as we have in the past.  We are going to have even more people handling the phones because we have had so many requests.  Give us a call if you would like to find out how it works.

HERDA Results - N/N
We have HERDA results back from UC Davis.  The following stallions are negative (N/N): A Cowboy At Heart, Dually Pep, Yellow Roan Of Texas, Tulare, Master Kaweah and Somebody Smart. The results for Ray Gay Quixote and Freckle Faced Kid are pending.  Right now, we do not feel testing the race bred stallions is necessary.  We will be doing some of the mares with Doc O'Lena breeding next and eventually will do all the broodmares.  We expect all of the Oasis Ranch broodmares to be negative as they have either had numerous foals or we have owned several generations of their families.  We will have the HERDA results on file for anyone who needs verification of the results.  We are hoping that AQHA will soon be stamping the results on the registration papers much like they do the HYPP results.

More Two Year Old News
We went over to watch Billy Phariss ride some two year olds by Yellow Roan and Dually Pep and we are pretty excited about them.  Smart Liza Boon (pictured top left), is by Yellow Roan Of Texas and out of Lena Montana by Smart Little Lena.  She is owned by Barry Watson of Oregon and was bred by Joe and Susan Hawkins of Oklahoma.  KNP Janes Lil Sis (pictured top right), is by Dually Pep and out of Just Plain Train by Just Plain Colonel.   She is owned by Oasis Ranch, Inc. and Billy Phariss and was bred by KNP Performance Horses.  Hi Yeller Lena (pictured bottom left), is by Yellow Roan and out of Hi Telesis by Lenas Telesis.  She is owned by Guillaume Martin of Mexico City and was bred by Oasis Ranch, Inc. and Dave and Sanda Cox. Owner Paul Ritchie reports his Yellow Roan Of Texas three year old filly, Rosy Boon Shine, placed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd at the Country Cutting circuit in West Virginia.  She was trained and shown by Grady Duncan.

Barbara Rhodes had a two year old A Cowboy At Heart colt the is "just exceptional."  He is headed for the NRHA Futurity.  They stopped by the ranch with him and we have to agree that he is pretty special.

Job Opening In Australia
Sue Marchant, of Goondiwindi, Queensland, Australia is looking for someone to train and show cutting horses.  She owns Master Jay and Smokes Mr Nic and 7 or 8 coming two year old cutting prospects to start (new year starts August 1st in Australia) and 15 yearlings that will need to be started in the future.  She also has cutting horses currently in training.  She wants to establish a premiere cutting facility and has 1500 acres on the Queensland and New South Wales border.  She is looking for someone who who can ride her horses, give her good advice, and put her station on the map.  She will provide a good salary, housing and an opportunity to show cutting horses.   At least a two year commitment and some reproduction experience is preferred.  Please contact us and we will provide serious candidates with her contact information.

July News
Breeding season is almost over and we will be starting to go to the shows now.  We will still be shipping semen but on an "as needed " basis.  Some of the stallions will be showing, so let us know if you plan on breeding your mare in July.

Here at the ranch we will be freezing semen for export and freezing embryos throughout the rest of the year.

With the hot weather here, make sure your foals are healthy.  Check for an increased respiratory rate in the afternoons and watch for signs of illness such as poor condition, coughing or snotty nose.  It is very important to check your mare's udder to see if the foal is nursing.  Remember that foals can be getting very sick and still have a normal temperature so check them daily for any changes in behavior.  With the hot days, the foals get sweaty during the day and can stay damp well into the night.  The dust is also a major contributor to illness in the foals, so keep it watered down the best you can.  If your mare is pregnant, you should have checked her between 45 and 50 days to make sure she was in foal at that time.  We check mares here at the ranch again at 90 days and then do not check them again until late fall.  Some problem mares will be check every 30 days but the majority will wait until November or December.

Oasis Ranch Production Sale Will Be October 13th
Although we have not worked out all the details, the Production Sale will be October 13th, probably starting at noon.  We will be taking consignments up until July 15th and will not be making any exceptions this year.  We have been lenient about the deadline in the past but it caused the catalog to come out late so we enforcing it from now on.  All the horses must be by or bred to Oasis Ranch stallions.  We have an exceptional foal crop this year and have some outstanding client horses entered already.

We will be having a preview the night before the sale with a Wine and Cheese Tasting.  Come join us and take a look at the ranch and the horses.  We will be having a stallion presentation along with a chance to preview the sale horses.  If you want to stop by before then to see the horses that live at the ranch, you do not need to wait. You are welcome to come see them anytime.  We will be posting a sale page soon with all the photos of the sale horses.  In the meantime, take a look at the New Foals page to see the Oasis Ranch foals that are tentatively in the sale.  The foals that will be in the sale are marked.  We will have a complete list of sale entries (including foals and older horses) on August 1st.

June News
Our last mare foaled on June 26th.  Sallinic, by Reminic out of Miss Brooks Bar (Dam of Miss Dual Doc and Grand Dam of Dually Pep) foaled a palomino roan colt by Yellow Roan of Texas.  Sallinic has been open for several years and with this pedigree, this is a special colt.

All of our King Fritz Two mares are in foal for 2008.  Take a look at the Broodmare Page to see them.  We are also excited that Little Topi Rio (25 yr old full blood sister to Grays Starlight) was just checked in foal to Yellow Roan Of Texas.  This is one of our favorite mares and we hope she will deliver a healthy foal next year.  It will be a special one, too.

May News
We have been busy breeding mares and foaling mares but will try to get the website updated now.  Check out the new foals as we get more photos posted.

We have sold some of our two year olds: Congratulations Guillaume Martin of Mexico City on the purchase of Cisco Grove, by Master Jay and out of the King Fritz Two daughter Porcelain Lace.  He is in training with Benny Guitron.  Congratulations Evie Bell of Pleasanton, California on the purchase of Cmon Yeller by Yellow Roan Of Texas and out the King Fritz Two daughter, Cmon Tell Us.  She will also go in to training with Benny Guitron.  Congratulations Randy and Charity Ford on the purchase of Pepto Chexx, by Yellow Roan Of Texas and out of the King Fritz Two daughter, Jeanita Chexx.  He is in training with Smoky Pritchett.  We have just a few two year olds left.

We have a whole herd of two year olds over at Billy Phariss' place.  Barry Watson has his two Yellow Roan fillies over there.  Billy reports that Smart Liza Boon looks like a great one.  Billy also has Hi Yeller Lena, by Yellow Roan Of Texas and out of Hi Telesis, owned by Dave Cox.  Billy said she is a special one, too, and she is for sale.  Kelly Allen has her Dually Pep filly there and she is looking great, too.  She is for sale.  And Billy has another Dually Pep two year old gelding, owned by Dave and Diane Harms, and he is for sale.  If you don't know Billy, he shows cutters and starts two year old for many of the major cutting horse trainers in our area like Brad Vaughn.

We have some pretty special new foals. There are not as many palomino and buckskin ones this year, but there are a lot of roans.  The Before The Bell - A Lil Honey foal is very fancy.  He is Pete's experiment with thoroughbred for an outcross and this one might have worked.  We looked for a thoroughbred with a great pedigree and a lot of conformation and mind that also could stop and turn around.  We got a colt with lots of looks that is pretty handy stopping and turning.  Come take a look at him.  We will have his photo up soon.  He is just a week old.

Richard Caldwell reports that his Yellow Roan Of Texas foals are doing fantastic.  He has two three year olds and several two year olds and yearlings.  Since Richard was injured last year, he has not been able to ride as much as he wants but he says they are the real deal.  Brett Erickson has a Yellow Roan Of Texas filly for Dale and Lydia Cox and he says she is ready for the cutting futurities. We heard he had a new Yellow Roan two year old but we haven't seen it yet.  Eddie Murphy has a two year old Yellow Roan Of Texas colt out of a Rooster mare and he said he is a good one.  Gary Long has Bobkitty, by Yellow Roan Of Texas and out of a Reminic mare, headed for the NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity.  She is owned by Nancy Dunn.

March News
The breeding season is under way and with all the sunlight we have had here in Northern California, the mares are about a month ahead of schedule.  There are still a lot of transitional mares but we are breeding a lot, also.  Our unscientific guideline is still how much the mares are shedding.  If her hair is coming off in handfuls, she is probably starting to cycle.  If she is holding on tight to her hair, she is probably still in winter anestrous, or not cycling yet. If you are booking to Yellow Roan Of Texas or Ray Gay Quixote, their books are filling up quickly and we need to get your contracts back.

We have a new assistant breeding manager, Joel Viloria, who is doing an outstanding job.  He has an Animal Science Degree from UC Davis and then worked at Pacific International Genetics before coming to Oasis Ranch.  Andrea Brum, who started as an intern and is here part time, is finishing her Masters in Equine Reproduction at UC Davis and has applied to Colorado State University for her PhD so we will be losing her after this year.  We also have several interns that will be helping us this year including several international interns.  We look forward to working with them.

Congratulations Evie Bell on the purchase of Cmon Yeller, a two year old filly by Yellow Roan Of Texas and out of Cmon Yeller by King Fritz Two.  She will go into training with Benny Guitron.  Congratulations Sue Marchant on the purchase of Cowgirl Singer, a three year old filly by Yellow Roan Of Texas and out of SR Lena San by Peppy San.  She will be bred and shipped to Australia.

We have added two more King Fritz Two daughters to the broodmare band.  Bright Candles, by King Fritz Two and out of Highly Treasured, is a sorrel mare and was maybe the best two year old Marilyn ever started.  She is a full sister to Pinkaboo and has been bred to Tulare, the best two year old Pete ever saw.  Pinkaboo, who is bred to Tulare for 2007, has a two year old by Tulare that we are really excited about.  The other mare, Oh Goody Gumdrops, is by King Fritz Two and out of Teardrops And Roses, and is a gray and roan mare that was one of the fanciest looking daughters of King Fritz Two and had quite a few wins in halter.  She will probably be bred to Tulare, also.  We will have their photos posted on the broodmare page when they are a little shorter haired.

Doc At Night will stand at Doug and Carol Williamson's Triangle D Ranch in Bakersfield for the 2007 breeding season.  Doug just won another $11,000 on him at the World's Greatest and wants to keep showing him.  Doug can be reached at (661) 303-6015 or (661) 835-7533.

Marilyn rode Yellow Roan just for fun the other night.  We usually just have the girls lope him to keep him fit.  He can really stop; if you even whisper "whoa" he buries it and is a blast to ride.  It is really tempting to show him but we decided that first year that we would not show him again if he bred enough mares.  He has bred over 100 mares a year since we bought him.  But it is tempting...

We are going to show Cay Oh Pep and Dually Pep in cutting this year.  We will also be showing Tulare in the reining but, since he had surgery last year for an enterolith, he is just getting started back.  It is difficult to schedule the showing during breeding season but we plan on showing both Dually Pep and Cay Oh Pep at the Back To Basics Show at Rancho Murietta in early March.  The breeding schedule always takes precedence for us.

Master Jay and Smokes Mister Nic will have foals next year in Australia.  Sue Marchant reports that both have been breeding mares and have created quite a stir in Australia.  We look forward to visiting Sue in the future to see the horses and her operation.

We have three new border collie puppies: two females and a male.  They are just three weeks old and are all tri-colored.  We are going to add a border collie page to the website soon.  The puppies are by our young male Ren, an imported dog by an International Supreme Champion and out of a daughter of a Supreme Champion.  They are out of Samantha, a full sister to Marilyn's great dog, Ben.  We also have a young female, Tess, by Bill Renihan's C-Zar (Champion Cattle Trial Dog) and out of Bruce Siegalhoff's Delta (Top Ten Nursery Trial Cattle Dog) that will eventually be bred to Ren.  We also have Abby, who came from Tony Diaz.  Abby raised a litter of puppies in 2005 by Ben.  You might have seen Cady Shaw's dog with her at the shows.  She is one of those puppies.

Another Check for a Yellow Roan Of Texas foal
February 20, 2007
RJJ Purple Pepto, by Yellow Roan Of Texas and shown by Billy Phariss, picked up another check at the Santa Rosa, California NCHA cutting last weekend.

Ray Gay Quixote Sires 2006 AQHA High Point Working Cow Horse
February 20, 2007
CC Spin Cycle, by Ray Gay Quixote, won the AQHA High Point Working Cow Horse Championship for 2006.  He is shown by Corey Cushing and owned by Cathy Corrigan Frank.

Shipped Semen Schedule
We will be shipping on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday  and occasionally on Saturday throughout breeding season.  Please call 24 hours prior to shipping and make cancellations by 8:00 am of the shipment day.  We prefer to schedule a tentative shipment and then cancel it, rather than have a surprise shipment on a collection day.  Give us a call even if it is after 8:00 am on a collection day to and will will ship to you if we can.  Late requests are difficult to fill and we will not re-collect a stallion. But, if we have extra semen, we will ship it to you.

More New Foals
February 20, 2007
Porcelain Lace foaled a bay roan filly by Master Jay last night.  The new foal is a full sister to Cisco Grove.  If you have a new foal by an Oasis Ranch, Inc. stallion, please send us photos and details.  We would like to put your foal on the website!  Check out the New Foals Page.

Breeding Season Is Here
February 7, 2007
We will begin shipping next Wednesday, February 14th.  If you are booking to Ray Gay Quixote, please get your contract back to us as we will be cutting his book off at 50 mares.  If you are planning on getting the early booking discount that we offer on some of the stallions, their books are filling up quickly.

We have had some foal reports but no photos yet.  Anamontana, owned by Jean Saxon, had a palomino filly by Yellow Roan Of Texas.  The first foals here at the ranch are due in about two weeks and then it will be non-stop until June.

 Motherly Love
January 30, 2007
We check out horse records frequently and though we would pass along some of the latest numbers.  We have always believed that the dam's produce record is a good indication of how a horse will sire.  We have stallions out of some pretty heavy hitting mares.  Miss Dual Doc, dam of Dually Pep, has produced earners of over $796,594.  She has 15 foals with 13 of them earning money and averaging $61,276 each.  She is number 19 on the Equi-Stat All Time Leading Cutting Dams list.  Clay's Little Peppy, dam of Tulare, has produced 17 foals and all of them are money earners.  They have earned $595,036 averaging $35,002.  She is number 32 on the Equi-Stat All Time Leading Cutting Dams list.  Doc's Steady Date, dam of Yellow Roan Of Texas, has produced earners of $350,707 with 11 foals averaging $31,882.  Doc's Steady Date was 7th in the NCHA Futurity and won both go-rounds and the semi-finals.  She showed against horses like Colonel Freckles, Freckles Playboy, Doc's Becky, Montana Doc, Doc's Oak and Doc's Remedy.  Oh Cay San, dam of Cay Oh Pep, has produced earners of over $382,232 with 10 foals averaging $38,232.  She also produced the dam of the 2006 NCHA Futurity Champion.  A Busy Body, dam of Somebody Smart, has produced earners of over $302,474 with 8 foals averaging $37,809.  What is even more impressive is many of these offspring showed over 20 years ago when the purses were much smaller than they are today and some offspring are currently showing and adding to the totals.

January 30, 2007
We have had so many calls about costs of breeding mares, shipping semen, embryos, etc. that we have added a page listing the costs of reproductive work and board costs.  We hope you will find what you are looking for but feel free to call if you have any questions.

Make sure your mare is getting the proper vaccinations prior to breeding for the open mare and prior to foaling for the pregnant mare.  For open mares it is best to vaccinate and deworm before breeding and not vaccinate for the first two to three months of pregnancy.  For the pregnant mare EVA and Rhino vaccinations should done at month 9.  The annual vaccinations such as tetanus, sleeping sickness, west nile, strangles, rabies, and flu should be done at month 10 to allow the foal's immune system the best beginning.  Foaling mares should be dewormed the day after foaling.  Please check with your veterinarian to may sure your mare is vaccinated properly and give us a call if you need to check on breeding dates or due dates.

January 29, 2007
Over the weekend we attended an EVA seminar given by Dr. Pat McCue from Colorado State and as a result of that information, we have updated the EVA Guidelines page.  We have all had to educate ourselves on this disease because of the devastating problems it can cause.  Until last year, no one even questioned the EVA status of stallions but now that has all changed.

Dr. McCue recommended that pregnant mares from 3 months up to 6 weeks prior to foaling be vaccinated with ARVAC.  Mares that are too far along to vaccinate can be vaccinated 7 - 10 days after foaling.  The foal will not get the disease but may test positive later on.  For 21days following vaccination horses may pass on the modified live virus to their neighbors , which will not give them the disease but may make them test positive.  Horses that are showing or coming and going from the property should be vaccinated or they could bring the disease back.  Fort Dodge is supposed to have more vaccine available to veterinarians on February 28th.

We are requiring all incoming horses to be tested and/or vaccinated.  Take a look at the EVA guidelines for more information.  Hopefully, EVA vaccines will be added to every stallion's vaccination requirements and vaccinating mares and geldings will not be necessary in the near future.  Due to previous outbreaks in the thoroughbred industry, EVA vaccination is mandatory for stallions in both New York and Kentucky and it has eliminated EVA in their states.

All of our stallions have been tested and vaccinated.  We will start shipping semen Wednesday, February 14th.

Customer Survey Winner
January 15, 2007
Vicki Coleman of Alberta, Canada is the winner of the Customer Survey Drawing.  Thank you everyone who took the time to participate. We will be having another drawing on April 15th, 2007 and everyone who participated in first drawing, except for Vicki, will be entered in the April drawing.  You do not have to fill in the survey again.  We really appreciate the input from everyone and liked your comments.  We always appreciate hearing about changes that would make our business better and, of course, all the nice things people wrote.  We look forward to doing business with you.

Another Finalist For Yellow Roan Of Texas
January 6, 2007
RJJ Purple Pepto, shown by Billy Phariss, won the 35 horse Redwood Empire CHA Winter Derby at Santa Rosa California today.  She is a beautiful red roan filly with a lot of cow.  Look for her photo soon.

January News
Due to the EVA outbreaks in New Mexico and Utah in 2006 and the recent outbreaks of Equine Herpes Virus Type 1 in Colorado and Southern California, we have developed new guidelines for any horse arriving at Oasis Ranch, Inc.  We realize that the new guidelines will add some expense to the cost of breeding your mare, but these diseases can be life threatening for your horses, can cause abortion in mares and be career threatening for stallions.  Please take a look at our EVA Guidelines and our Mare Requirements Form.  Our Mare Requirements Form also includes other procedures that are part of good mare and foal management.  For those of you who would like more information about EVA and Equine Herpes Virus Type 1, we have links to USDA websites and other informative websites.

We are booking mares for 2007 and many of the stallions are filling up quickly.  Don't forget about the Customer Survey and the drawing for a breeding to an Oasis Ranch, Inc. owned stallion.  We know the survey is time consuming but we are always looking for ways to improve our business.  We really want and appreciate your comments, whether negative or positive.  We will be drawing for the breeding on January 15, 2007.

More December News
Oh Cay Felix, by High Brow Cat gelding out of Oh Cay Shorty, a half sister to Cay Oh Pep, won the NCHA Futurity with a score of 227.  He was also the Amateur Champion, making it the first time a horse has won both the Amateur Championship and the Open Championship.  He was scratched out of the Non-Pro Futurity so he would be rested for the Open Futurity.  Click here for Cay Oh Pep's page.

We have the EVA Guidelines posted.  We are grateful to Butch Wise at the Lazy E Ranch for coming up with such comprehensive guidelines and, with his permission, we have decided to use their guidelines for EVA.  Click here to see the EVA guidelines.

December News
The NCHA Futurity sales were strong with the Preferred Yearling Session Averaging $70,000 and the buy backs at 5%.  A yearling High Brow Cat filly out of a full sister to Yellow Roan Of Texas sold for $62,000.  The roan horses were higher than their sorrel or bay counterparts and the Peptoboonsmal yearlings sold really well.  The record setting weanling was a Peptoboonsmal filly selling for $750,000 and three of the Peptoboonsmal yearlings sold for $115,000 to $150,000.   The sales are continuing through the weekend and while the preferred sales are the strongest, the overall picture is looking great.  To see the sale results click here.

Clays Little Peppy, dam of Tulare, added another winner to her produce record and boosted her offspring earnings to over $500,000.  Deena Adams took the reserve championship in the Limited Non-Pro finals at the NCHA Futurity riding  the Clays Little Peppy daughter, MH San Tules Clay.  See the whole article on Sally Harison's blog.

For those of you who do not know about King Fritz or wonder why we have so many King Fritz Two mares, take a look at the current issue of Quarter Horse News.  King Fritz or his progeny are listed 6 times in the 5 1/2 year statistics for Reining, Cutting and Working Cow Horse.  Bueno Chex, Fritz Command, Nu Chex To Cash, just about anything with Chex or Chexx in the name is related to King Fritz.  King Fritz died over 30 years ago, styles have changed many, many times and yet he is still impacting the industry as a leading maternal grandsire or great grandsire.  We just wish all the accomplishments of his legendary offspring had been better recorded, but that was before everything was computerized and the records were lost.  We were lucky enough so see some of the legendary sons and daughters of King Fritz show in the Stock Horse Classes.  King Fritz and Master Remedy are still the leading sires of NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity Champions.

Master Jay, Smokes Mr Nic and a Yellow Roan Of Texas weanling filly are all on their way to Australia.  Sue Marchant of Goondiwindi, Queensland, has purchased all three of them.  She will be standing Master Jay and Smokes Mr Nic to approved mares only.  We think both stallions will have a major impact on the Australian performance horse industry where they demand more size, conformation, and soundness than many US breeders.

We will be adding more horse to the sales page in the next few days.  We also will be updating the photos as soon as the weather allows.  We have a list of money earning and/or producing mares and also several client horses to add.

We have also updated the broodmare page so take a look at the updated produce records and pedigrees.  There is a lot to talk about so it is a work in progress.  We ultimately plan on having a photo, Robin Glenn and AQHA record, and pedigree on every broodmare.

Do you have your open mares under lights?  December 1st is the ideal time to start if you plan on breeding your mare in February.  Have you given your mare her Pneumabort-K Vaccinations?  They are due the 3rd, 5th, 7th, and 9th month of pregnancy.  She is also due for deworming and all of her annual vaccinations, including West Nile Virus, four to six weeks prior to her due date.  Give us a call or send us an email if you need more information about her due date. Please check with your veterinarian and follow his or her recommendations. Click here to go to the FAQ page.

Have you heard about EVA?  There is an article about it in the current NCHA Chatter.  In 2006 there was an outbreak in New Mexico and Utah of Equine Viral Arteritis, which is a respiratory disease that can cause abortion in mares.  Many, if not all of the major breeding farms will be requiring a negative EVA tests within 30 days of arriving at the stallion station or documented vaccination more than 30 days prior to arriving.  Vaccinated horses need to be quarantined for 21 days after vaccination.  Currently the Fort Dodge vaccine ARVAC is backordered and not available until March 2007, which will make it difficult to meet farm requirements.   We realize that this is an added expense and inconvenience, but it is to protect your horses as well as ours.  Please email us and we can direct you to more information.  We will be posting vaccination requirements for On Farm breeding in the next few days.  In the meantime, contact your veterinarian for recommendations and more information. Click here to go to the EVA page.

We are adding a tack and equipment page soon.  Right now we have a 1978 Van Core saddle in excellent condition for sale.  For those of you unfamiliar with Van Core saddles, most of the current reining and cowhorse saddles are copies of the Van Core Saddle.  Art Van Core was a saddlemaker form Merced, California and he made the ultimate show saddles in the 1970's.  Many of the Don Leson saddles, Bob's saddles, and Jim Taylor saddles are based on the Van Core saddle.  The Van Core saddle is considered a collector's item and they are very hard to find and even harder to find in excellent condition.  Like the Ortega equipment, many people use their Van Core saddles and many people put them in the living room.  Give us a call if you are interested.  We should have the photo posted tomorrow.  We also have a Ricotti cutting saddle and an almost new Crosby English saddle for sale.  I don't expect to be using that English saddle anytime soon....

We just returned from the AQHA judges' seminar and watched an excellent cutting presentation given by NCHA Director of Judges Russell McCord.  He showed a DVD with play by play commentary about how the judges score cutting runs.  He thought the DVD would be available in March 2007.  We recommend it to anyone interested in showing in the cutting.  AQHA has also approved two new classes: Performance Halter and Cattle Sorting.  The class descriptions and rules are posted on the AQHA website.

Don't forget about the marketing survey.  We have had an excellent response so far and value your input.  We will be drawing for the breeding on January 15th, 2007.  Some of the stallions are booking up pretty quickly so now is the time to get your bookings in.  We have some clients who cannot decide which stallion and they book early to obtain the discounts and name the stallion later.  We also have clients who cannot decide which mare and also book early and name the mare later.

New Marketing Survey
We have a new customer survey to see how we can improve our business and we are really interested in your input.  We know it is long and time consuming so we are going to have a drawing for a breeding for one of the Oasis Ranch, Inc. owned stallions to be drawn on January 15th, 2007 to show our appreciation for your time and effort.  If you are not currently a client, you may also participate and be eligible for the drawing.  We want to know what you think and if there are questions we should have included, we want to know that, too.  To take the survey click here.

World Show Update
Ray Gay Quixote
offspring were impressive in the AQHA World Show Junior Working Cow Horse finals.  Spursuasion, shown by Shadd Parkinson and owned by Susan Johns, was Reserve World ChampionCC Spin Cycle, shown by Corey Cushing and owned by Cathy Corrigan Frank was a close 4th.  Congratulations to both of them!

Mister Babe Ribbon, son of Oasis Ranch broodmare Babes Blue Ribbon, was third in the AQHA World Show Senior Working Cow Horse and Chic A Starlight, sold by Oasis Ranch, was 9th in the AQHA World Show Junior Cutting.

November Update
We want to welcome a new stallion for the 2007 breeding season.  Somebody Smart, a son of Smart Little Lena, who is a Million Dollar Sire with only 151 foals old enough to show, will be arriving this week.  This horse has phenomenal sire numbers and has achieved Million Dollar Sire status from fewer foals than many other stallions have in one or two foal crops. He has 221 total foals and 53 offspring showing this year.  That is a third of his foal crop that is old enough to show!   We are excited to have a horse that not only sires winners, but the winners keep on winning year after year.  His 2006 three year olds are adding on to that million dollar total and we will have names and numbers posted on his website as soon as we can.  He is still owned by Bar F Cutting Horses from Red Bluff, California, and will stand for $2500 with the chute fee included.  We already have mares booking to him so download a contract or give us a call.  You probably don't realize just how many winners he has sired so keep checking back as we add to his web page and list the many, many winners and their money won.  You will be very impressed by the numbers.  We sure are!

October Update
We have a new website name: www.oasisranchinc.com and a new email: oasisranchinc@hughes.net.  We have had some unexpected problems with the server changing over and we apologize to all of you who have gotten error messages or have not been able to see the new web pages.  It was supposed to be so easy!  We have also had email problems throughout the year as our server changed from direcway.com to hughes.net.  Again, we apologize to anyone who did not receive a reply from us.  If we did not reply, we did not receive your email and we hope you will contact us again.

The sale results will be posted now that everything seems to be working.  We had a successful sale and look forward to seeing the sale horses in the show ring in a few years.  We appreciate all the nice notes and comments we received from so many people.

We a nice surprise from the owners of Oaxaca Chexx, the oldest foal of A Cowboy At Heart.  He is on the cover of the October Western Horseman and also in the feature article of the NFQHA Magazine.  Click here to view the NFQHA Article Featuring Oaxaca ChexxWe are very proud of him and the job owners Jimmy and Sandy Brazile have done with him.

Production Sale Update
Take a look at the redone 2006 Production Sale.  We have links to Robin Glenn pedigrees for almost all the horses listed and will continue to add more.  We will also continue to update the list with photos and pedigrees in the next few day so take a look tomorrow as the list nears completion.  We have a great set of horses and encourage you to call or email with any questions.

July Update

We are nearing the end of a very successful breeding season and finally have time to take a look at the website.  We were fortunate enough to get a fancy Dually Pep colt out of a 27 year old daughter of Bueno Chex, Bueno Chexs Macy.  We also got an embryo out of another Bueno Chex daughter, Nunes Endora Chex.  Both of these mares are producers of either NRCHA or NCHA money earners.  We were also excited to get an embryo out of Sallinic, who is by Reminic and out of Miss Brooks Bar, the dam of the great producer Miss Dual Doc.  Sometimes it is frustrating to have such success with difficult mares and not be able to settle one that should have been easy.  Our conception rate is in the low 90%'s, but we are still focused on the few that we missed.

We have a fantastic foal crop with a lot of quality and a lot of color.  Take a look at the  2006 Production Sale page as we add more photos.  There are a lot of foals of our major producers.

We received a DVD from Jamie Bissell who is riding a  Yellow Roan Of Texas 3 year old.  He will be shown in the NRHA Futurity and is looking pretty fancy.  Come by the ranch and we will show him to you and brag a little.  There is only one Yellow Roan Of Texas older than three and he has earner over $50,000 so we are excited to see the next oldest ones show.  Yellow Roan Of Texas bred over 100 mares for the 4th year in a row.  His foals are pretty special and it is really fun to get calls from people who have the best foal they have ever raised.  His oldest California crop was born in 2004.

We are hearing good things about the Dually Pep babies, too.  The oldest crop is two and there are a handful of them.  They must be riding great because we keep getting calls from people who have seen them wanting a two year old for themselves.

Even though the US breeding season is over, we are starting to freeze semen for export.  We are currently approved for the EU, Australia and New Zealand and will be adding Brazil soon.

Anyone who has not received their breeding certificate for their 2005 foal, please give us a call.  We have sent them out to everyone who has reported a live foal, but occasionally get a call that one has not been received.  Let us know and we will get them to you.

Sale Photos
May 31, 2006
The 2006 Production Sale page is up.  We only have a few photos so far but we will be adding more almost daily.  We have over 250 horses at the ranch and have foaled 52 mares, so things have been busy here in Herald. We have received many photos of foals and will be getting them posted in the next few days, also.  The 2006 foal crop is fantastic; even better than last year's.

Cay Oh Pep Wins Cow Palace
Cay Oh Pep (NCHA earner of $59,347) won the buckle and the money in the All Ages Cutting at the 2006 Grand National Cow Palace in San Francisco.  He was shown by Pete and is owned by Zoe Compton.

Sun Circuit News and Other News
March 20, 2006
We have been so busy that we are behind updating the website, so we are trying to catch up.  Another Ray Gay Quixote colt is a big star.  CC Spin Cycle, by Ray Gay Quixote, was the 2006 Reserve Champion High Point Junior Working Cowhorse at the Arizona Sun Circuit and still has everyone talking.  2006 Horseman of the Year, Benny Guitron, said he stopped so hard and deep that he burned the hair off of his hocks.  Benny has been trying to buy this horse from trainer Corey Cushing since before the AQHA World Show but he has not gotten it done yet.  CC Spin Cycle is owned by Cathy Corrigan Frank and she has more Ray Gay Quixote foals coming in 2006.

Bill Greer's mare, DA Just Plain Bonnie, had a Ray Gay Quixote colt recently that is really fancy.  Ray Gay is going to be a phenomenal sire if you look at the foals already on the ground.  Ray Gay Quixote has a bad rap about his shipped semen, but not any more.  We made a few changes to the extender and he had a 100% shipped semen conception rate in 2005.  An airline shipment was lost over the weekend and when it finally arrived, a day late, veterinarian Dr. Troy Ford said the semen looked great.

Susan Hawkins reported her new Yellow Roan Of Texas foals are especially fancy this year.  She says the colt out of her Rooster mare, High Rollin Rooster, is the fanciest baby she has ever raised.  We have a long list of foals that we will get posted on the New Foals Page as soon as we get a moment.

Richard Caldwell reported that his Yellow Roan Of Texas gelding, KNP Kaliburn, is riding great.  He originally bought him to resell but now he thinks he is going to keep him to show.  He bought him at our 2005 production sale.  Same thing for Cady Shaw.  She bought a Yellow Roan Of Texas filly out of a King Fritz Two mare at our 2005 production sale.  She has decided to keep her and show her and sell her other yearling.  We are excited to have both of these great Non-Pro riders on Yellow Roan Of Texas foals.  Richard's colt is a two year old and Cady's filly is a yearling.

Doc At Night and Playboy 895 have both arrived at the ranch.  Doc At Night has his first APHA foal - a black and white tobiano owned by Ken Bloom of Hawaii.  Playboy 895 will breed his first mares in 2006.  He is a really nice horse and is a favorite with the girls who lope him.  We will get some conformation photos on his web page as soon as the weather dries up.

Cutters Smoke has been getting a lot of attention from Australia.  Even though the horse is 25 years old, he has great semen and we will be shipping frozen semen to Australia when their season starts in August.  The word is getting out that he has his AQHA papers and the people who remember his sire, Mr Gun Smoke, and his dam, Cutter's Roxie, are lining up to breed to him.  Luckily he is extremely fertile and we expect him to stay that way for a while.

We had a great visit over the weekend with Bill and Deb Meyers, from St. Onge, South Dakota, owners of leading Barrel Racing sire Frenchmans Guy and Hot Colours.  We spent a day and a half with them and the time just flew by.  They fell in love with Jerrys Disco Moon and Master Jay.  They also fell in love with the King Fritz Two daughters and were impressed to see mares with conformation like that.  Take a look at their website to see their gorgeous mares and their stallions: www.frenchmansguy.com

Master Jay is getting quite a following in the roping community.  JD Yates marked a 228 on Nitro Jay at the Kansas Futurity.  Jess Elrod has two for the big roping futurities this year and is breeding more mares back.  In the reining, Tons A Talent just won the Non-Pro Reining Class at the Dixie National.

Tulare has a new filly that is really fancy.  She is out of Hanky Panky Pinky, a half sister to King Fritz Two and full sister to Del Mar Stock Horse Stake Champion, Request The Tab Hanky Panky Pinky is the dam of NRCHA money earner, True Glamour.  Pete and Marilyn each pick out up to two foals  to keep each year and she is one of Marilyn's picks.  Marilyn picked  a Tulare colt last year, also, out of her favorite King Fritz Two mare.  They are both very quick in front and low headed with a lot of stop.  And great minded.  Tulare is still the best two year old Pete has ever seen and these babies look like they will be like dad.  Just wish we could make them two year olds right now......

Another fancy new filly is by Dually Pep out of Nancy Dunn's Master Remedy mare,  Smokin Miss RemedySmokin Miss Remedy is from the family of Smokin Master, LTE $40,126, two time NRCHA World Championship Snaffle Bit Futurity Bridle Champion and maybe the best bridle horse of our time (full brother); Mister Smoking, LTE $42,176; Miss Smokin Remedy, LTE $33,620 (full sister); Miss Smokin It, LTE $21,000; Dee Buenos Smoking, LTE $7,600.

New Foals and Other News
February19, 2006
Take a look at the new foals web page.  Only two so far but there will be a lot more oh there soon.  The new stallion web pages are almost completed.  You can see the all the stallions by going to the stallions page and clicking on each individual stallion.  Padbst Budha Ribbon will arrive next week.  Doc At Night and Playboy 895 will arrive the first week in March.  Jaks Artifacts, Before The Bell, Freckle Face Smoke, and The Docs A Whiz are already at the ranch.  Come take a look.

More Stallions For 2006
January 22, 2006
Two more stallions are on their way to Oasis Ranch for the 2006 breeding season.  We have been waiting a long time for this stallion.  When we started looking for sons of Peptoboonsmal we thought Cay Oh Pep and Yellow Roan Of Texas were the two we wanted.  They are the two best looking sons of Peptoboonsmal and two of the best bred on the dam's side.  We wanted to have an alternative for the mare owners who did not want to breed to a palomino.  Cay Oh Pep (NCHA earner of $59,347) a red roan son of Peptoboonsmal and out of Oh Cay San (producer of over $314,000 including leading sire Oh Cay Quixote) is coming in from Kathy Daughn's in Gonzales, Texas.  Due to colic surgery as a three year old, he missed the NCHA Futurity and then had to have a repeat surgery for repairs to the incision site, missing even more showing.  He is a Superstakes Open Finalist and an NCHA Derby Open finalist.  And he has very little Doc Bar blood.  As Kathy Daughn said, "The only Doc Bar he has is Royal Blue Boon and if you have to have a Doc Bar, I guess that's the one to have."  He is owned by Zoe Compton.

Stallions Arriving
December 21, 2005
The new stallions will be arriving soon along with some from last year that went home for the off season.  Jaks Artifacts, Before The Bell, Freckle Face Smoke, and The Docs A Whiz will arrive in January.  Doc At Night and new stallion, Playboy 895, will arrive after the NRCHA World Championship Show.  Pabst Budha Ribbon will be back after the Arizona Sun Circuit but will keep showing as breeding season permits.  Cutters Smoke is already here along with the stallions that live at Oasis Ranch: Tulare, Classy Little Lena, A Cowboy At Heart, Ray Gay Quixote, Yellow Roan Of Texas, Master Jay, Dually Pep, Heza Lota Reminic and Smokes Mr Nic.  The web pages for all the stallions will be completed soon.

Give us a call or email for brochures and contracts.  We are updating the web almost daily now so check back frequently  for new stallions, news, and horses for sale.

Website Update
December 3, 2005
We will be updating the website for the next week and adding new stallions and new horses for sale.  We now have the 2006 Breeding Contracts online.

October 6, 2005

New Stallions for 2006
September 22, 2005
We have added three new stallions for the 2006 breeding season.  We probably will not have their web pages done until after the sale so here is a little bit of information on them.

Hesa Lota Reminic has already arrived.  He has earned over $54,653 and 35 AQHA points shown by Sandy Collier.  He was a finalist at every major NRCHA event.  In fact, he was a finalist every time he was shown.  He is sired by the legendary Reminic.  His dam, Shesa Lota Cash, was the 1996 NRCHA World Championship Snaffle Bit Futurity Champion. Oasis Ranch Approved for Shipping Semen to EU
August 25, 2005
We just received approval for shipping to the European Union for the upcoming breeding season.  Although we started the process over a year ago, and the final paperwork was dated January 20, 2005, somehow the system "lost" it and the USDA just notified us.  We will be approved for New Zealand and Australia shortly.  It is an easy process now that they found our paperwork.

Email Was Down
April 29, 2005
Our email at oasisranch@direcway.com was down for two weeks while the server fixed an engineering problem. We realized there was a  problem after a week of receiving someone else's email.  If we have not replied to your email please send us another one or give us a call, because we probably never got it.  And Marilyn has had pneumonia off and on for 7 weeks so we are a little behind on returning some phone calls, too.  The doctor said she is better now.  While she kept current with the breeding (she flushed an embryo out of a 26 year old daughter of Bueno Chex and then went to the doctor's the same day), the office work got behind.  So please bear with us as we catch up with phone calls, emails, and paperwork.

Ray Gay Quixote Ships
Ray Gay Quixote has settled all his mares far enough along to check, including mares bred with shipped semen.  We know this horse had a reputation for shipping poorly but a few changes to the shipping procedures has changed all that.  We are using INRA96 extender and shipping it at room temperature.  INRA96 was manufactured to be used this way and although the packaging is not what you are used to, it works.  If you have been hesitant to book to him because of the rumors, you no longer have to worry about that.

Milliondollarchexx Wins Youth Trail at Age 26
While judging an AQHA show at Grand Island, Nebraska, on July 25th, Marilyn saw a horse that reminded her of one from King Fritz Two's first foal crop, but figured he was way to old to still be alive.  After letting the horse win the class (he won under both judges) and hearing his name announced, she was amazed that it was Milliondollarchexx, a foal of 1978, making him 26 years old.  By King Fritz Two and out of World Champion Aged Mare, Opie's Pride, he looked like he was about 15 years old.  It is very gratifying to see a very happy horse that has over 600 AQHA points in everything from Western Pleasure to Trail to Showmanship and is still sound and healthy.  It is amazing that he is showing and winning.  He has also won the Congress in Horsemanship and competed in Trail last year at the Youth Finals at age 25     He is owned by the Corritore family and was shown in Youth Trail at Grand Island by Joey, age 13, and was shown by Dominic, age 8, in the walk/jog class.  It was fun to meet his "family," including Grandma and Grandpa, and know that "Pokey" will continue to be treated like a million dollars.
